“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to
be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 – KJV).
Let’s study and rightly divide Abba’s Word of Truth by looking at the
scriptures about the Last Supper…
Matthew 26:26-29
“26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and
brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,
Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many
for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the
vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.”
Mark 14:17-26
“17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One
of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is
it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that
dippeth with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to
that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he
had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it,
and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to
them: and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which
is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the
vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of
Olives.”
Luke 22:14-20
“14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles
with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this
passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and
divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until
the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto
them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of
me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new
testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
Christians believe that the last time Messiah ate with His disciples
was His last Passover meal and that it is now called the Last Supper instead.
They believe that the Passover changed to the Last Supper, or Communion as referred
to in 1 Corinthians, and is now only celebrated with unleavened bread and the
fruit of the vine (grape juice).
Let’s look back a little further in the scriptures before this meal
took place…
Matthew 16:1-7, 17, 19-21
“1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he
said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son
of man is betrayed to be crucified.
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the
elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called
Caiaphas,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among
the people.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious
ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.”
“17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples
came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat
the passover?”
“19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made
ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you
shall betray me.”
Verse 2 shows it was 2 days before the Feast of the Passover. Verse 3
shows the chief priests, scribes, and elders of the people assembled together
that night to conspire how to kill Messiah, and verse 5 says they would not do
it on the Feast Day. Verse 6 shows that same night, two days prior to the Feast
of the Passover, when Messiah was anointed for His burial.
Verse 17 shows it was the day time of the first day of the Feast of
Unleavened Bread, one day prior to the Feast of Unleavened Bread. This day is
the preparation day for the Passover Feast. Verse 17 also shows that they were
preparing for the Feast of the Passover, not that they were going to eat the
Passover meal that night, but that they were preparing for it (verse 19).
Jewish tradition includes a day of Preparation where everything is gathered for
the Feast that is to come. This was the Preparation Day, not the Feast of the
Passover Day.
Verses 20-21 shows that, the night before the Passover meal was to be
eaten, when evening was come, they sat down to eat. These verses do not say
they were eating the Passover Meal, but it does say “as they did eat”. Think of
this as the day before Thanksgiving. We all prepare for Thanksgiving by going
out and getting the things that we need, even on the day before to get the last
minute items we will need. This is like that, they were preparing, gathering
what they would need on the night of the Passover Meal the next night. We see
this confirmed in the following passage…
Matthew 27:59
“59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen
cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock:
and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over
against the sepulchre.
62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the
chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,”
Mark 14:1-3, 12, 15-18
“1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened
bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by
craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the
people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at
meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very
precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.”
“12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the
passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare
that thou mayest eat the passover?”
“15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared:
there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as
he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.”
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One
of you which eateth with me shall betray me.”
In Mark, we see the same thing:
Verse 1 shows it was 2 days prior to the Feast of the Passover AND of
Unleavened Bread. This verse also shows this is when the chief priests and the
scribes gathered to conspire to kill Messiah. Verse 2 shows they did not want
to do it on the Feast Day. Verse 3 shows on the same day, 2 days prior to the
Feast of Passover, they gathered together to eat supper at the house of Simon
the leper and Messiah was anointed.
Verses 12 and 15-16 show it was the next day when they were to prepare
for the Feast of the Passover, on Preparation Day one day prior to the Feast of
the Passover. Verse 17 confirms this was the same day in the evening when the
12 came together and verse 18 says they sat and ate. It does not say it is the
Feast of the Passover, it just says that they sat and ate.
We see this confirmed in the following passage…
Mark 15:42-47
“42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation,
that is, the day before the sabbath,
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited
for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the
body of Jesus.
44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him
the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the
linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a
stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was
laid.”
Messiah was crucified on the Preparation Day of the Feast of the
Passover. Hebrew days start at the setting of the sun and end at the setting of
the sun on the following day… at evening. From verse 42 we see it was evening
when Messiah was buried. Messiah was crucified as our Passover Lamb just as the
Passover animal sacrifices were being killed for the Passover Meal. This is how
Messiah shows us HE IS OUR PASSOVER LAMB!
Messiah had to be killed for the Passover, not before it. The Last
Supper He ate with His disciples was not the Passover Meal, but it was
Messiah’s Last Supper here on earth before His crucifixion. We also see from
verse 42 that it was the day before the Sabbath. This refers to the Shabbat of
Rest (the 7th day) and it refers to Passover as the Shabbat of the
Feast of the Passover. All of Adonai’s Holy Days are considered
Sabbaths/Shabbats (the 7th year and the year of Jubilee - Leviticus
25:4, 8-12).
Luke confirms the same thing…
Luke 22:1-2, 7-13
“1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the
Passover.
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for
they feared the people.”
“7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover,
that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city,
there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the
house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith
unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my
disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make
ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made
ready the passover.”
Verse 1 shows “the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew nigh” and it shows
the Feast of Unleavened bread is also “called the Passover”. Verse 7 shows it
was “the day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed”. In Hebrew
timing, the days start in the evening when the sun goes down and ends the next
evening when the sun goes down. From this verse we see it was the day when the
Passover must be killed which is the Preparation Day one day prior to the Feast
of the Passover, the evening beginning the Preparation Day was coming.
Verses 8-9 shows, on this day (before the evening came) Messiah sent
His disciples to prepare for the Passover. We know it was evening because men
didn’t usually go out to get the water, but verse 10 clearly states that a man
bearing a pitcher of water would meet the disciples. Verses 11-12 show they
would use the room to eat the Passover, but it does not say specifically that
Messiah did eat the Passover. They were using the room, on the Preparation Day
for the Passover, to prepare for the Feast of the Passover.
Verse 13 confirms they were making ready for the Feast of the Passover,
not that they were eating it then. The following passages confirm it was the
Preparation Day for the Sabbath/Shabbat (of the Passover)…
Luke 23:50-56
“50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was
a good man, and a just:
51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was
of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of
God.
52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre
that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed
after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the
sabbath day according to the commandment.”
We also see, from verse 56, this day was the day before the
Sabbath/Shabbat of Rest… the following day they “rested the Sabbath Day
according to the Commandment” (the 7th day is the day Adonai
commands us to rest and to keep holy and set apart for Him, Friday evening to
Saturday evening, the 7th day of the week). This was the Sabbath of Rest and the Sabbath
of the Feast of the Passover.
John also confirms this…
John 13:1-2, 14-30
“1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour
was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved
his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of
Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;”
{Verses 1-2 = this is BEFORE the Feast of the Passover when supper had
ended. This is the evening before the Passover, one day before the Feast of the
Passover, the Preparation Day for the Feast of the Passover, this is NOT the
Passover Meal.}
“14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also
ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to
you.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his
lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”
{Messiah confirms that He is not greater than Adonai Who sent Him.
Messiah did not change Adonai’s Commandments, Holy Days, Feasts, Times, or
anything else Adonai gave the Israelites from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Messiah
Himself confirms He was sent as our Example of what we are to do. Messiah tells
us if we know these things we will be happy if we do them.}
“18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the
scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his
heel against me.
19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may
believe that I am he.
20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send
receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.”
{Messiah knew who the chosen ones were. He knew who would betray Him
(“lifted up his heel against Me”). Messiah told His disciples that the
scriptures about Him must be fulfilled (the scriptures about His coming and His
death and His ascension). Messiah told them what would soon happen so they
would believe He is the Messiah when they had gone through everything and came
to the time after His crucifixion. Messiah tells us that, if others receive
those He sends to tell the Truth to, they not only receive Him but they also
receive Adonai Who sent Messiah here too.}
“21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified,
and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom
Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it
should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have
dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the
son of Simon.”
{Messiah told His disciples He would be betrayed by one of them, the
one He gave a sop to. According to Adonai’s Word, we are not to eat the bread
without salt. Jewish tradition is to have a bowl of salt water present to dip
the bread in, this is the sop Messiah shared with the one who betrayed Him.}
“27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him,
That thou doest, do quickly.
28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had
said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or,
that he should give something to the poor.
30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was
night.”
{From verse 29 we see the disciples didn’t understand Judas was the one
who would betray Messiah. They thought Judas, since he had the bag of money,
may have been going out to buy those things they needed for the Feast of the
Passover. From this we know it was not the Passover Meal because there is no
work on the Sabbath Days of Adonai. Nowhere would be open for business if this
was the Passover.}
The belief that, the last time Messiah ate with His disciples, was not
His last Passover meal. It was, however, His last meal here on earth. The
belief that Passover is now called the Last Supper instead is also incorrect.
The meal Messiah ate with His disciples was not the Passover Meal, so we cannot
assume Messiah changed the Passover to the Last Supper, or Communion.
Christians use 1 Corinthians 11 as proof Passover was changed to the
Last Supper, and to show we are now to only celebrate it with unleavened bread
and the fruit of the vine (grape juice).
Christians believe that Paul was giving instructions of how to keep the
Last Supper (that replaced the Passover) in 1 Corinthians because they were
already doing it wrong. They also believe that the new testament churches are to
decide when to keep it. Christians believe the Last Supper was instituted by
Messiah to be done as a church gathering, just like Messiah did with His
disciples, in fellowship with Messiah. Christians believe this time is so
reverential and serious that, if done wrong, they will be judged, by Messiah,
physically by affecting their health if it is not done correctly or with the
right heart.
Let’s look at this passage…
1 Corinthians 11:17-34
“17 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come
together not for the better, but for the worse.
18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that
there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are
approved may be made manifest among you.”
{There was a division among the believers in this church. Those who
were approved made those who weren’t manifest to (brought them to the attention
of) the others in the church.}
“20 When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat
the Lord's supper.
21 For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one
is hungry, and another is drunken.
22 What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the
church of God, and shame them that have not? what shall I say to you? shall I
praise you in this? I praise you not.”
{They were not coming to partake in the Last Supper of Messiah, they
were coming to eat as though it was any other common meal. Some were being
gluttonous and taking before others could get any, some were drinking so much
of the cup they were becoming drunk, thus causing others to not have any of the
bread or the cup in order to participate in the Last Supper with.}
“23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto
you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this
is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped,
saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye
drink it, in remembrance of me.”
{Verses 23-25 show us Messiah is our Sacrifice for our transgressions
in that He gave us His Body (represented by the bread) and His Blood
(represented by the cup of the fruit of the vine). Messiah wanted us to take
the bread and the cup in remembrance of Him and the Sacrifice He made for our
transgressions, in place of the animal sacrifices which could never cleanse us
spiritually from our transgressions. This is the Blood and the Cup of the new
testament, the new testimony which Adonai gave us through His Son Messiah. This
is what was delivered unto Paul by Messiah Himself and by the disciples (Acts
9), which Paul then told the members of this church.}
“26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew
the Lord's death till he come.”
{“this bread” and “this cup” refer to the bread and the cup that we eat
and drink in remembrance of Messiah’s Sacrifice for our transgressions (and in
keeping Adonai’s Commandment to keep the Seventh Day Holy unto Him) on the
Sabbath (on Shabbat). This is the bread and the cup referred to in verse 26. We
eat this bread and drink this cup ever Shabbat (every 7th day of the
week/every Sabbath). Every sacrifice given by Adonai in Exodus-Deuteronomy was
commanded to be the animal offering, the bread offering (referred to as the
meat offering offered with olive oil), and the drink offerings. Messiah took
the place of the animal sacrifice but we are still to offer the bread and the
drink offerings unto Him, knowing Messiah is our ONE AND ONLY acceptable
Sacrifice for our transgressions of Abba’s Word.}
“27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the
Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.”
{If we have not truly repented of our transgressions of Adonai’s Word,
and if we have not turned back to Adonai and His Ways, we are found guilty of
the Body and the Blood of Messiah if we continue to partake of the bread and
the cup which represent Messiah’s Sacrifice for our transgressions.}
“28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread,
and drink of that cup.”
{We are to examine ourselves to see if we are following Adonai’s Word
and Ways, to see if there are any transgressions we have done against Adonai
and His Word and Ways. We are to ask for forgiveness of those transgressions,
believing Messiah is our Sacrifice for those transgressions, and ask Him to cover
us with the Blood and Bread of His Sacrifice cleansing us from our
transgressions. We are to turn back to Adonai and His Word and Ways. Then and
only are we allowed to “eat of that bread” and “drink of that cup”.}
“29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh
damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.”
{Those who eat of that bread and drink of that cup who are unworthy
suffer sicknesses and some even die (“sleep”) because of it.}
“31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.”
{If we judge ourselves according to Abba’s Word and Ways, if we turn
back to Him and His Word and Ways, if we repent and ask for forgiveness of
Messiah, then we will not be judged.}
“32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we
should not be condemned with the world.”
{We are judged of Adonai when we do not turn back to Him and His Word
and Ways, when we transgress His Word and His Ways. When we do not judge
ourselves and repent and return, Adonai judges us, He chastens us, so that we
will not be condemned with the rest of the world who do not believe, repent and
return.}
“33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for
another.
34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not
together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.”
{When we come together to keep the Sabbath Day (Shabbat, the 7th
day of the week, the Day of Rest) we are to wait for others to take their share
first and we are to only take enough to fulfill the commandment, we are not to
be gluttonous and take more than we need and we are not to drink until we are
drunk. If we are hungry, we are to eat at home before we come together to keep
the Shabbat.}
Not once in this passage does it ever mention “the Lord’s Supper”
replaced the Passover Meal Adonai gave us in His Word. Not once does this
passage say this is the replacement for the Passover Meal. It simply states
that “the Lord’s Supper” is the breaking of the bread and the drinking of the
cup, and gives instructions on how we are to eat this bread and drink this cup,
how we are to be, spiritually in our hearts, worthy by judging ourselves. We
are to properly be “discerning the Lord’s body”, learning the true meaning of
Messiah’s Sacrifice for our transgressions, the true reason why He came and had
to be crucified, judging ourselves according to Adonai’s Word to make sure we
are following His Ways as Messiah followed Them.
Christians believe the following passages are the last time Messiah
referred to Passover as Passover - Matthew 26:26-29, Mark 14:17-26, Luke 22:14-20.
They also believe that, when Passover is mentioned after this, it is only
mentioned as the Passover by the unbelieving Jews.
In the following passage (which comes well after the Last Supper) we
see Paul, a believing Jew, referring to the Passover when he tells us Messiah
is our Passover Who was sacrificed for us. We also see Paul tells us to keep
the Feast of the Passover and to keep it with unleavened bread, the Unleavened
Bread of sincerity and truth…
1 Corinthians 5:6-8
“6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven
leaveneth the whole lump?
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye
are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with
the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity
and truth.”
Christians believe (Luke 22:15) when Messiah said He desired to eat the
Passover with them that He was referring to His fulfillment of the old
testament scriptures saying He is the Passover Lamb and that His Passion (Acts
1:3) was about to be fulfilled. They believe this made Him glad because the new
fellowship of believers would be opened with Him as their Sacrificed Lamb and
Great High Priest. They believe this was not possible before this time.
Luke 22:14-16
“14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles
with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this
passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
Messiah says He desired to eat this Passover with them before He
suffered, but it doesn’t tell us that He did. Scriptures tell us Messiah did
not eat this Passover with them as He had done in years past. We know this
because we know Messiah is our Passover Lamb and could not have been eating
Passover with the disciples while He was on the cross suffering and dying for
our transgressions.
Acts 1:1-4
“1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus
began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the
Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many
infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things
pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they
should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father,
which, saith he, ye have heard of me.”
Messiah’s suffering and crucifixion on the cross truly is His Passion
as referred to in verse 3 above. But we also see from these scriptures that
Messiah gave the disciples commandments after He rose from the dead and before
He ascended into Heaven (verses 2-4). Messiah also commanded the disciples to
stay in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of Abba which is the giving of the
Holy Spirit (The Ruach HaChodesh).
Prophets did go to Heaven because of their belief in Messiah long
before Messiah ever came to be born on this earth:
Genesis 5:2-3
“23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”
Hebrews 11:5

2 Kings 2:1
“1 And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven
by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.”
The disciples saw Messiah with Moses and Elijah when they were on the
mountain…
Matthew 17:1-6
“1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother,
and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun,
and his raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with
him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to
be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and
one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and
behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I
am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were
sore afraid.”
Moses followed Adonai’s Word (Torah) and he died long before Messiah
was born on this earth, yet Moses is seen with Messiah on the mount. The only
way this is possible is if Moses believed in Messiah and was taken up to Heaven
by Adonai before Messiah came to be born on this earth.
We also see Messiah Himself tell us Abraham saw Messiah’s Day…
John 8:56
“56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was
glad.”
Christians believe this Last Supper was a foretaste of what it will be
like with Messiah at the marriage supper of the Lamb (Luke 22:16).
Luke 22:16
“16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
Messiah is clearly referring to the bread and the cup that is eaten and
drank on Shabbat, and He is referring to eating and drinking of them when they
are fulfilled in the Kingdom of Adonai (when we eat of the Marriage Supper of
the Lamb), but Messiah does not call this “the Lord’s Supper”.
Christians believe Messiah only took the bread and the cup (Luke 22:19-20)
at the Last Supper because that is all Messiah wanted them to do in remembrance
of Him. They believe He did not take any meat because that would be to crucify
Him continually and slapping Him in the face (Heb. 6:4-6). They believe this is
the first ordinance Messiah gave to the new testament church.
Hebrews 6:4-8
“4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have
tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to
come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing
they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and
bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing
from God:
8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh
unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.”
Only the ones who have been enlightened will receive the Holy Ghost
(the Ruach HaChodesh) and those who are enlightened have repented of their
transgressions of Adonai’s Word, they have returned to Adonai and His Ways, and
they have believed Messiah is their Sacrifice for their transgressions of
Adonai’s Word Who came to replace the animal sacrifices that could never
spiritually cleanse us of our transgressions. Once you have been enlightened,
it is impossible for you to fall away (turn away) from Adonai and His Word and
His Ways and then return again to Him and His Word and His Ways (I submit to
you that they were never truly enlightened in the first place.). Those who
proclaim to be enlightened, but are not truly enlightened, who turn away from
Adonai and His Word and His Ways, are in essence crucifying Messiah again and
putting Him to open shame in the sight of other believers and in the sight of
Adonai.
Those who are truly enlightened and have the Ruach living in them and
the Ruach reminds them of Adonai’s Word and Ways. They are the ones who will
truly have a heart for Adonai and His Word and His Ways. When they are truly
enlightened and are filled with His Ruach, Adonai’s Word will be written on
your hearts and they will love Him as David loved Him. They will never want to
leave Him and His Word and His Ways again, once they are truly enlightened and
filled with the Ruach of Adonai and have His Word written on their hearts.
Christians believe the second ordinance Messiah gave is baptism.
The Israelites were baptized under the cloud and when they crossed the
sea, the all drank of the cup (“spiritual drink”) and they all at of the bread
(“spiritual meat”), the meat and drink of Messiah (“that Spiritual Rock that
followed them”)…
1 Corinthians 10:1-4
“1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that
all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that
spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”
Adonai gave us baptism in Messiah before Messiah came to be born on
this earth.
Christians believe these two ordinances are the only instructions
Messiah gave us to keep. Christians believe the Law was only until the time of
reformation (Hebrews 8:8-10). Christians believe the Law was disannulled
according to Hebrews 7:18.
Let’s look at these passages…
Hebrews 7:14-18
“14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe
Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of
Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after
the power of an endless life.
17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of
Melchisedec.
18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before
for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.”
Verse 18 – the “disannulling of the commandment” is referring to the
commandment that only Levites can be priests (Deuteronomy 18:1-2 “1 The priests
the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with
Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the Lord made by fire, and his
inheritance. 2 Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren:
the Lord is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.” – Numbers 18:1-2 “1 And
the Lord said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father's house with thee
shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall
bear the iniquity of your priesthood. 2 And thy brethren also of the tribe of
Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined
unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall
minister before the tabernacle of witness.”). Messiah did not come from those
of the tribe of Aaron or from those of the tribe of the Levites, (Hebrews 7:14)
Messiah came from the tribe of Judah.
Messiah is the High Priest after the order of Melchisedec. The fault
was found in the Levitical priests, not with Adonai’s Laws (Torah). This is the
new covenant Adonai made with us that replace the old covenant (that only the
Levites could be priests), to give us a High Priest after the order of
Melchisedec, and to put Adonai’s Word written in our hearts through His Ruach
(Holy Spirit)…
Hebrews 8:8-10
“8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith
the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the
house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the
day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because
they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write
them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a
people:”
There was no disannulling of Adonai’s Law (Torah). Messiah Himself
tells us that…
Matthew 5:17-20
“17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am
not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or
one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and
shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but
whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the
kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the
righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the
kingdom of heaven.”
Christians believe all of the Holy Days, including Passover,
were given under Moses’ Law and were not given to Abraham with the Covenant of
Promise which is by faith, not of works such as observing any of the events or
days or feasts. Christians believe Abraham was never given these things and
that he never observed any of them. They believe this to be true so that the
new testament promise would be of faith in Messiah (Galatians 3:13-18, 22). Christians
believe this is how the promise came to the Gentiles (Galatians 3:14, 16). They
believe the Promise was made to Abraham and his seed and they believe that seed
are those who believe in Messiah by faith and not just because they were
physically born of his seed.
Abraham kept Adonai’s Word:
Genesis 26:5
“5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my
commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”
Galatians 3:10-22
“10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for
it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are
written in the book of the law to do them.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is
evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live
in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a
curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through
Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's
covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not,
And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God
in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot
disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but
God gave it to Abraham by promise.
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of
transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it
was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if
there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness
should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by
faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.”
The “curse of the law” is the curse of our death because of our
transgressions of the law, not the law itself. Messiah came to be our perfect
sinless Sacrifice for our transgression of the law (replacing the animal
sacrifices that could never cleanse us spiritually, thereby cursing us.)
Messiah became a curse for us so that we could be forgiven for our
transgressions of Adonai’s Word (Torah). This is the better promise.
Verse 15 also confirms that the law is not disannulled and states that
it is not to be added to nor taken away from. In fact verse 11 states that, if
we do the laws we will live in them, meaning if we accept Messiah as our
Sacrifice for our transgressions of the laws of Adonai, and we follow those
same laws, we will have life because of them and because we live in them. This
inheritance is of faith in Adonai’s Promise, to Abraham, to send us Messiah as
our Sacrifice for our sins (Who replaced the animal sacrifices that could never
spiritually cleanse us), if we believe.
Faith without works is dead…
James 2:17-24
“17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy
faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils
also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered
Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith
made perfect?
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God,
and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of
God.
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith
only.”
Christians believe any time the Bible refers to Abraham and his seed,
and refers to a Promise, that It is only to those who believe, not just those
that are Jews (Galatians 3:22).
Here we see a contradiction. How can the Promise be to Abraham too if
Abraham was not alive during the time Messiah was crucified so that he could
believe what the Christians now believe? If what they say is true, the Promise
is only to those who came after Messiah was crucified, who knew then that He is
Messiah, not to those who came before Messiah. We know this is not true because
we see reference to several of the prophets being in the Kingdom, before
Messiah was crucified, throughout the old testament scriptures and while
Messiah Himself was here on earth.
Let’s look at these scriptures…
Galatians 3:22-29
“22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by
faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the
faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that
we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on
Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs
according to the promise.”
We already saw the scriptures that show the Israelites were baptized in
Messiah. This means belief in Messiah had to have come before Messiah was born
on this earth, and did pertain to those who came before His birth as well.
Christians believe Galatians 3:17 refers to the Covenant of faith, or
Promise, and confirms it was given to Abraham in Messiah 430 years before the
Law was ever thought of. They believe when the Promise was fulfilled in Messiah
that the law and all ordinances were abolished.
Galatians 3:17
“17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God
in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot
disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.”
This verse does tell us the law came 430 years before Messiah came to
be born on this earth, but we do not see this verse say the law and ordinances
would be abolished. In fact, we have already seen, from Matthew 5:17-20, that
Messiah did not come to abolish the law and all ordinances contained in them.
Christians believe Paul told the believing Jews that they would be
judged by nobody for not following the Law or its Holy Days (Colossians
2:14-17).
Let’s look at these passages…
Colossians 2:8-19
“8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after
Christ.
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality
and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without
hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of
Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him
through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your
flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us,
which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them
openly, triumphing over them in it.
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect
of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and
worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen,
vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and
bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the
increase of God.”
The “handwriting of ordinances” that were against us were the additions
the Jews made to Adonai’s Word, those are the ordinances Messiah nailed to the
cross, not the entire law (Torah) of
Adonai. These are the doctrines of men Messiah was referring to in Matthew 15:9
“But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of
men.”
Paul is clearly not saying don’t let them judge you for not keeping
Adonai’s Word. Paul is clearly teaching us not to let others judge us because
we do keep Adonai’s Word (Torah) because they “are a shadow of things to come”.
Christians believe Galatians 4:9-11 is where Paul told them that
observing days, and months, and times and years, (they think are referring to
the feasts and days) were beggarly elements and that Paul even went so far as
to question that his preaching had been in vain to them.
Galatians 4:4-11
“4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son,
made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the
adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son
into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then
an heir of God through Christ.
8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by
nature are no gods.
9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God,
how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again
to be in bondage?
10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.”
Paul is not referring to Abba’s Holy Times, Feasts, and Days in verses
9-11. We see from verse 8 Paul is referring to “them which by nature are no
gods” and the days and feasts they kept for those that are no gods. Paul
teaches us that, if we truly are sons and heirs of Adonai, we will no longer
keep the days and feasts of those who are not gods, which are the “weak and
beggarly elements” those in that time desired to be in bondage to again (such
as Christmas which is of pagan origin and Easter which is of pagan origin –
neither are mentioned in Adonai’s Word at all). They were observing the days,
months, times, and years of the pagan non-gods and not the days, months, times,
and years of Adonai’s (found in Exodus-Deuteronomy).
Christians believe when Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 5:8 and called it the
feast that Paul was not referring to the Passover, but was instead referring to
the Last Supper and that Paul was reprimanding them for still keeping the old
testament Passover (verse 7). Christians also say the Greek word for “feast”
does not mean “Passover”.
1 Corinthians 5:7-8
“6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth
the whole lump?
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye
are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with
the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity
and truth.”
Paul is clearly referring to the Passover in verse 8, not the Last
Supper, and he is not reprimanding them for keeping the Passover, he is
reprimanding them for keeping the Passover while not being truly repentant and
turned back to Adonai’s Truths, he is talking to those who were keeping in
unworthily.
Christians may not believe the word “feast” means Passover, but the
Greeks did. Let’s look at the Greek word for “feast” used in verse 8…
The Greek word used in verse 8 for “Passover” is “pasha” which means “the
Passover” according to Strong’s Concordance.
Christians believe this is why we are not to forsake the assembling of
ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25) and that we are to keep the Last Supper
(Communion) there as Messiah instituted it with His disciples. They believe a
pastor is the only one that can head the Last Supper.
We are not given such instructions, that only a pastor can head the
Last Supper. We are only told we are not to take of it unworthily (see 1
Corinthians 11).
Hebrews 10:20-31
“20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through
the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with
pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for
he is faithful that promised;)
24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good
works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of
some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day
approaching.
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of
the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation,
which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three
witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought
worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood
of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done
despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will
recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
The reason we are to assemble together is so we will hear Adonai’s Word
(Torah) being read every Shabbat, so we will learn and understand It and know
the Truth of Messiah in Abba’s Torah. This is the reason we are to assemble
together, so that we truly understand Adonai’s Truths and don’t pervert His
Word like we have seen the Christians do.
